PV System A solar cell, or photovoltaic cell is a semi-conducter that converts photons of light into electricity. This is called the photovoltaic effect. The semi-conductor is generally made of silicon although other materials can be used. Rays of sunlight are absorbed by the silicon which cause electrons to be released from their atoms. These electrons flow through the silicon and produce an electric current.A single solar cell is small and produces a tiny DC current. Many solar cells are combined into a module and in turn modules are combined togethor in an array that can collectively output many killowatts of energy in ideal conditions
